Taplika Search?

I'm running Windows 8.1 on a two year old HP Pavilion with the latest
updates and all seemed to be going very well until yesterday when
something seems to have intruded into my computer and installed this
mystery program...Taplika Search. Now, each time I open my browser and
try to visit any web site this snoop software pops up and tries to
convince me that I have some files that should be deleted. I think
this is a ruse and all Taplika is trying to do is get my identity
information. Can anyone here tell me anything about Taplika and if it
is malware, how do I get rid of it?

Thanks, Gordon

Run Malwarebytes.

Thanks Leala. I've worked through this and I think I have the Taplika
Search malware removed. I'd still like to do a thorough cleanup but I
don't know what would be the best way to do this. Any suggestions on
this? Is Windows Defender a reasonable choice?

You can start with a full scan with Windows Defender

Download Malwarebytes Anti Malware Free and do a full scan:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/products/

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free
http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

That should clean everything hopefully.

Thanks, Leala, I did a Windows Defender complete scan and also went
through the instructions on the site you sent me the link for. I think
I have this all cleared away, now...hope so anyway. I have not seen
any indications of it yesterday afternoon or this morning. I've locked
all my bank accounts down so no funds transfers or debit card charges
can go through until I am certain that all is safe. Gordon

Presumably you don't need anyone to say 'don't forget to change your
passwords'.

Yeah, I did that, but thanks for mentioning it. I went to my bank this
morning and they put an upper limit on the daily charge amount that
could be added to my credit cards and they also reminded me to change
my passwords. Gordon
